How to Choose a Safer Sunscreen
The Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) has made choosing a safer sunscreen easy! Their new online 2011 Sunscreen Guide exposes the good, the bad and the ugly of sunscreen market.
The alarming part is that after analyzing over 600 beach and sport sunscreens, the EWG found that only one in five pass their safety standards.
What is the problem with many sunscreens on the shelves today? Many have misleading information regarding the sunscreen’s protection factor, better known as SPF. Some sunscreens protect against ultraviolet short-wave rays (UVB), but not against the ultraviolet long-wave (UVA). For a consumer this misleading claim can cause potentially dangerous consequences. In addition, many sunscreens on the market contain potentially harmful ingredients that can lead to tumors and lesions. Learn about safe, natural, organic sunscreens here.
